Sorry that I’ve neglected this audience this long. April was Camp Nanowrimo, and I spent it editing last November’s novel.
I kept working on it through May, but I’d say it’s finally ready for the first episode to post on Kindle Vella.
“Floater in the Lake,” the first “season” of Crimes in Lake Mandak, releases with its first episode on June 9. Additional episodes will be posted every Tuesday and Friday throughout the summer.
Crimes in Lake Mandak takes place in a fictional town in North Dakota’s Turtle Mountains. It centers around a small group of first responders. Their status as outsiders pits them against long-time locals deeply entrenched in tradition, loyalty to family names, and the small town identity, which masks a web of crime.
Drawing on over 15 years of experience as a park ranger, firefighter, and EMS worker, I built the characters and events in this story. The setting is primarily based on the community where I live. The background culture grew out of the town where I was raised.
At this point, I don’t know how many parts will comprise this series. I’m shooting for three to four parts.
“Floater in the Lake” will also be available on Kindle Unlimited for markets outside the US. Eventually, I’ll consider moving it to Unlimited in the US as well. When? That, I haven’t decided.
I hope you’ll check it out and leave some feedback to let me know where I can improve.
