Novels by Tommie Wendall

“I found the characters are people that we can all relate to in real life. Also it relates to the struggle that some people have in trying to find their place and where they came from in this world. Tommie did an excellent job in painting a real life situation that could have happened just after the civil war.”

Clay Lockhart never had an easy life growing up in Middle West, North Dakota. After witnessing a murder at the hands of bootleggers, he is sent to reform school in an effort to cover up the smuggling operation. Twelve years later, he returns as a member of the rum running syndicate tasked with solving the mystery of the local operation’s lost revenue.

Sophia Palmer was always the smartest kid in class. Daughter of the local banker, she grew up wanting for nothing but the love of her family. Her relationship with her father is completely shattered when she follows him into the woods one night and sees him kill their guest from Bismarck, a man she thought was her father’s friend. Burying the secret deep in the back of her mind and throwing herself into her studies, she becomes a doctor in an effort to stay away from Middle West as long as possible.

Unable to find a job elsewhere, she finds herself back in the town she only ever wanted to flee. Then, when Clay shows up he brings with him all the demons she managed to keep locked away for over a decade.

Frank Palmer built an empire since the dawn of Prohibition. Now, he owns the local law and possesses enough power that no one questions his character, but Clay Lockhart threatens everything he knows and relies on for his comfortable life, including his standing with the Syndicate.

Set in an upper Midwest border town, Wretched Road (working title), is a story about consequences, both good and bad.
